Genealogy may mean reconnecting with surviving relatives who have lost contact (or, indeed, never met) due to  Emigration, Adoption, Conflict.

In each family, there is one who seems called to find their ancestors and to put flesh on their bones and make them live again. Maybe a young man ran off to join the army below the minimum age of 18 and never came back. Was he engaged in the war, absconded or lost on Flanders fields.

Some ancestors didn’t want to be found with changed names like Mary Innocent, Timothy Guilty, Thomas History, Olive O’Ireland.

Going back in time How can one ancestor cause so much trouble?
